Frames, foam, fabric and leather: what goes into a custom sofa.

Samples you can lift, bend, fold and take to the window. A weave photographs one way and behaves another, so we do not ask you to choose from a screen.

Inside a custom sofa

Frame, foam and fabric: what goes in

A sofa is only as good as what you cannot see. Here is what goes inside ours, and how it is put together.

Foam and comfort

Our standard seat is 40D HR foam; you fine-tune the firmness at the studio by sitting on samples. A seat 55 to 60 cm deep suits upright sitting and a 65 to 70 cm seat suits lounging with your legs up.

How it's built

Every sofa is built on a pine frame with 18mm BWR plywood, sinuous springs and 40D HR foam. Walnut is our standard visible timber; other timbers on request.

Fabrics and leathers

Choose from 300+ fabrics and leathers in our material library — linen, bouclé, velvet, textured weaves and leather.

Warranty

3-year warranty on frame, springs, foam and upholstery against manufacturing defects, confirmed in writing with your order. Normal wear, misuse and sun fading are not covered.

Specification

Written down, by name and code.

Whatever you choose in the library is written into your specification by name and code, and that is what arrives. Every specification is kept on file, so a repeat piece two years later matches the first.

Questions

Questions about sofa frames, foam and fabric

What is inside a custom sofa?

A pine and plywood frame, built and dry-assembled before anything is upholstered; the seat and back cushioning; and a cover of fabric or leather stretched and stapled by hand. Walnut is our standard visible timber, and other timbers are available on request.

Can I choose how firm the seat is?

Yes. Our standard seat is 40D HR foam; you fine-tune the firmness at the studio by sitting on samples. A seat 55 to 60 cm deep suits upright sitting and a 65 to 70 cm seat suits lounging with your legs up.

Which is better, leather or fabric?

Leather wipes clean and wears well, a good choice for families with children. Fabric such as velvet, bouclé or linen is softer, and linen is cool in a Hyderabad summer. You can handle both in our material library.

Which fabrics do you offer?

Linen, bouclé, velvet and textured weaves, plus full-grain and corrected leathers. Over 300 fabrics and leathers are in the material library. The samples are in the library at our Gachibowli studio, and the ones on this page show how they look on real sofas.

Is my choice written down?

Yes. Whatever you choose in the library is written into your specification by name and code, and that is what arrives. We keep every specification on file, so a repeat piece two years later matches the first.
